Contemporary dance draws from techniques such as Graham Technique, Limon, and Horton. Today, Contemporary dance methods have had a big influence on competitive Jazz, Lyrical and even Hip Hop dancing, all of which have formed beautiful, emotionally focused dance styles. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music, making it a very versatile and expressive style.
Modern dance was created by José Limon, and designed with a sense of freedom and play. It is a great complement to classical training, and a perfect study for Contemporary dance. Students will learn the importance of breathing, and how to initiate movements of the body via the torso. Influenced by the body’s weight, the concepts of fall, rebound, suspension, and succession will be studied. Structured improvisations will lead each class to explore creative and choreographic outlets. Partnering work included.
