About Our Dance Programs
The trained instructors that make up CDM’s faculty are bursting with passion for the wonderful world of dance, and we genuinely love sharing that appreciation with new generations of students.

We work with new generations of children to teach them the basics of dance, right up to the most advanced and challenging moves in order to prepare them for a world of artistic expression. Nothing makes us happier than watching our students grow and excel as elegant and poised dancers.

Does my child need previous experience before starting dance classes?

Definitely not. We accept beginner students, as well as those with a bit of experience in dance. One of our joys is introducing children to the world of dance for the first time, and helping to motivate them as they move forward with their lessons.

What is the best style of dance for my child to start out in?

There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to choosing your child’s first dance style, but Ballet is one of the most common. It is routinely viewed as a foundational style of dance that can build strength, poise and concentration. It’s also a slower form of dance, which allows children to grasp the basics without much trouble. However, keep in mind that certain styles of dance do require prerequisite training in another style before the student can join.

What age should my child be before they start dancing?

This is a rather subjective topic, as there’s no preset minimum age requirement for dance. Typically, children 5 and up tend to enroll the most, as they have mastered coordination skills, and grown their cognitive abilities enough so that they can follow along with instruction. However, even toddlers can participate in dance classes in order to develop rudimentary foundations and movements that will help them later.

What skills will my child develop besides just dance prowess?

The biggest ancillary benefit of dance classes for children is the cardiovascular workout. It’s never too young for children to start exercising, which in turn creates a plethora of physical and psychological health benefits. Plus, children will get to socialize with each other in a fun and uplifting team-based environment, which goes a long way towards developing vital social skills.
