The piano instructors at the Conservatory of Dance and Music offer a wealth of experience and knowledge of the piano. From the earliest days as piano student, young learners can expect to work with teachers who know how to keep them engaged and interested while also exploring and promoting the musical interests of the student. From simpler and more approachable music designed for beginners, arrangements of popular music, traditional classical and related repertoire to improvisational jazz styles, we at CDM teach students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced students, using time-tested methodologies and proven practical skills.
Playing the piano has been proven to promote physical coordination, concentration, to improve self-esteem and confidence, and to promote neuroplasticity for players of all ages. It connects you to a musical tradition going back centuries and connects to nearly every culture in the modern age. Why not give it a try?
Additionally, our instructors have experience in guiding students through the Royal Conservatory of Music system, which provides a structured system of grading and certificates for students to move through. The grades of the RCM system provide tangible, reachable goals for students to strive for, providing a sense of growth and achievement. The highest levels of the RCM system, typically achieved after around ten years of study, are often seen as equal to a university degree in music.
Why should my child complete an RCM music exam? The RCM system provides achievable goals for you to reach for, promotes commitment to regular practice, and offers the best return on investment for parents to see progress through a structured curriculum of grades and certificates.
The Conservatory of Dance and Music also offers private voice lessons. Our instructors in singing have experience not only in singing and vocal training, but also in the running of choir programs and musical theatre. By taking private lessons at our studio in North York, you can achieve a much stronger singing voice and develop confidence that can be used in many other parts of your life.
We also offer a choir program on Mondays and Tuesdays, which would allow you or your child to practice as part of a group with the goal of growing together and eventually performing at a recital. This is a great opportunity to meet friends and to develop your skills in music. The choir program runs in the afternoons and is at a lower price compared to private lessons,
The Conservatory of Dance and Music also has instructors with experience in teaching stringed instruments, including the guitar, ukulele, bass, violin, and others. Whether you’re just interested in trying them out, or you would like to try learning a new hobby to see what you’re capable of, or if you’d like to be able to play music with your friends or make new friends through music, or even to join a band or orchestra, we can help you build the foundation that will allow you to achieve your goals.
In addition, we also offer a blended instruments group class on Saturdays, which would allow you or your child to practice as part of a group, allowing you to learn together and from each other, to make new friends, and to achieve the goal of eventually performing at a recital. The blended program runs on Saturdays at 12:45 and is at a lower price compared to private lessons, making it a great way to test the waters of music practice and seeing if you enjoy playing music with groups.
